Examples of objects, items or materials that may be detected by the devices and methods include, but are not limited to, solid objects or materials, such as ice. Examples of object or material processing systems include, but are not limited to, ice forming machines and ice collection bins of ice making systems. Other example applications may include refrigerated cabinets, refrigerated cases, freezers, display cases, and other appliances or refrigerated storage containers, where the detection system may be used to detect ice accumulation and initiate a defrosting procedure.
