Abstract

To securely factory activate the mobile device (201) from the authorized record, the factory activation server (214) generates and sends a signed factory activation record including a signed factory activation tag. The signed factory activation record and label are cryptographically signed using the factory private key stored in the factory activation server (214). The factory private key is different from the user private key stored in the activation server (204) that provides the activation tag for user activation. If the factory activation record is valid, an application processor (AP) included in the device (201) performs a factory activation of the device (201), which includes AP activation to allow factory testing and rebooting at a scheduled reboot time. The wireless communication processor (BB) included in the device (201) verifies the factory activation tag and if valid, the BB performs a factory activation comprising: the BB registers with the cellular telephone communication network for factory testing, and deregister from the network after a predetermined deregistration time.
