Abstract

The objective of the invention is to allow the visual disparity amount of a selected subject to be quantitatively adjusted, while being confirmed, during reproduction of stereoscopic images. A cross-shaped key (20) is used to select a subject to be adjusted in visual disparity amount. An identification mark (34) that is representative of the subject is displayed in a two-dimensional graph (30) of an assist window (24) where both the visual disparity amount of the vertical axis and the distance information of the horizontal axis are explicitly shown. A guide mark (35), which uses an arrow to indicate a direction of reducing the visual disparity amount of the subject, is displayed in the vicinity of the identification mark (34). The identification mark (34) and guide mark (35) are displayed moving along the vertical axis in accordance with an adjustment operation of visual disparity amount. A visual disparity amount adjusting circuit (40) is operative to adjust the visual disparity amount of the subject. When the identification mark (34) moves into an area between displayed lines (31, 32) indicating an appropriate range, the guide mark (35) disappears.
