Abstract

A reagent injector control system includes a pulse width modulation (PWM) control module and an injector drive module. The PWM control module monitors current through the reagent injector during the injection control cycle, generates a PWM signal during the injection control cycle based on the amount of reagent to be injected, and performs at least one of the following actions based on the current during the injection control cycle: Selectivity to increase and selectively decrease the duty cycle of the PWM signal. The injector drive module selectively enables and disables current flow based on the PWM signal. Based on the current, the reagent injector turns on and injects reagent into the exhaust system. The exhaust system receives exhaust gas output from the engine. The reagent reacts with nitrogen oxides (NOx).
