Embodiment Construction

[0038] The subject matter of the embodiments of the invention disclosed herein is described with specificity in order to satisfy statutory requirements. However, the description itself is not intended to limit the scope of this patent. Rather, the inventors contemplate that the claimed subject matter may also be embodied in other ways, so as to include different steps or steps similar to those described in this document, in connection with other present or future technologies The combination.

[0039] Generally, embodiments of the invention relate to employing a search engine to generate search results in response to a query. However, when the query is not explicitly looking for an application or apps, then conventional search engines typically return websites that they believe are relevant to the query. For example, if a query includes the keyword "Italian restaurants Bellevuereservation," a conventional search engine will likely return many websites for local businesses. ...

Abstract

Computer-readable media, computer systems, and computing methods are provided for implicitly discovering applications with corresponding locations. Initially, an application manifest is constructed that maintains a mapping between apps and their corresponding geographic boundaries. In operation, upon detection of a location signal being transmitted from a mobile device, the location signal is employed to identify a valid set of applications. Generally, location signals represent location-based information entered into or received from a mobile device. Identifying the set of valid applications involves comparing the location signal against the list of applications, and based on the comparison, designating as the set of valid applications those apps that are mapped to satisfy the geographic boundaries of the location signal. Upon identification of the active set of applications, a selection of apps included within the active set of applications is sent to the mobile device for display to the user within an operational context.

Description

Background technique [0001] Applications, or "apps" as used herein, are becoming more available across the Internet and are ubiquitous on mobile devices (e.g., laptops, touch screen devices, mobile phones, and other handheld devices) . More and more users are using apps for their everyday tasks. However, discovering the proper set of apps during a mobile activity remains non-intuitive and time-consuming, if at all possible. In one instance, when a user is visiting a particular location (e.g., Los Angeles), there is currently no information available to help identify whether there are local tours and guides, overnight stays, places to eat, local news and events, etc. associated with the particular location. routines for any apps. [0002] In another example, if a user is physically close to a point of interest (eg, Disneyland), there is currently no routine to help identify whether there are any apps related to the point of interest. For example, referring to Disneyland poi...
