The engine 10 may be any suitable engine, such as an internal combustion engine, especially a diesel compression ignition (CI) internal combustion engine. Internal combustion engine 10 may include a plurality of combustion cylinders enclosed within a crankcase. Each combustion cylinder may be fluidly coupled with intake manifold 12 and exhaust manifold 13 . While only a single intake and exhaust manifold are shown, it should be understood that multiple intake or exhaust manifolds 12, 13 may be used, with each intake or exhaust manifold 12, 13 coupled to at most combustion cylinder. A fuel such as diesel or a fuel gas mixture is passed into each combustion cylinder and combusted in a known manner within the combustion cylinder. Engine 10 may further include a turbocharger 14 .

Abstract

Disclosed is an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve 23 comprising a valve housing 31 defining an interior space, a valve stem 32 and at least one valve head member 35, 36 mounted on said valve stem 32. The at least one valve member 35, 36 is arranged to move between open and closed positions. The valve 23 further comprises a mounting member such as a bushing 37 located in the interior space, with said valve stem 32 supported within the mounting member 37. The at least one valve head member 35, 36 comprises a deflector 45 to direct fluid away from the mounting member 37 when the valve head member 35, 36 is in an open position. An exhaust gas recirculation system having such a valve and an engine having an EGR system with such a valve are also disclosed. The deflector arrangement prevents particulate matter lodging between the mounting member 37 and the stem 32 which would cause jamming of the valve.
