Abstract

In a closed circuit, the heat transfer fluid is circulated from the first heat transfer area via the downcomer to the second heat transfer area, the first heat transfer area, the downcomer and the second heat transfer area being arranged in the external environment. A first heat transfer region within the first tank includes a first heat transfer surface through which the liquefied stream to be heated is in first indirect heat exchange contact with the heat transfer fluid. The heat transfer fluid is allowed to condense, and a portion of the condensed portion of the heat transfer fluid is allowed to accumulate within the first tank, thereby forming a liquid layer of the heat transfer fluid in a liquid phase within the first tank. Liquid is drawn from the liquid layer and flows through the downcomer into the second heat transfer region. The second heat transfer region includes a second heat transfer surface through which the heat transfer fluid is in second indirect heat exchange contact with the external environment.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for heating a liquefied stream. [0002] The liquefied stream herein has a temperature below ambient temperature. Preferably, the temperature of the liquefied stream is at or below the bubble point of the liquefied stream at a pressure of less than 2 bar absolute, so that the liquid phase remains at that pressure. An example of a liquefied stream in industry that requires heating is liquefied natural gas (LNG). Background technique [0003] Natural gas is an efficient fuel source. However, natural gas is usually extracted at great distances from markets. In this case, an LNG plant at or near the source of the natural gas stream is required to liquefy the natural gas. Natural gas in the form of liquefied natural gas is easier to store and transport over long distances than its gaseous form because it occupies a smaller volume and does not require high pressure storage. [0004] LNG is usually ...
