example

[0080] The following examples illustrate the invention without restricting it in any way.

example 1

[0081] Example 1. Using WBA resin (6-% DVB) from xylose-containing lysate isolated from MgSSL SMB Liquid-Pair Xylose Chromatographic Batch Separation

[0082] The test equipment consisted of a separation column, feed pump, heat exchanger, inlet valves for feed and eluent, and flow control devices for output. use SO 4 2- Form of acrylic weakly basic gel-type anion exchange resin packing column. The resin has a divinylbenzene (DVB) content of 6%. The resin had an average bead size of 0.32 mm. The height of the chromatographic resin bed in the separation column was 1.34 m and the column had a diameter of 0.093 m.

[0083] The xylose-containing solution obtained from MgSSL SMB separation was used as feed for the purpose of separating the xylose contained therein.

[0084] Prior to the separation test, the feed solution was filtered with a Buchner funnel and the feed dry matter content was adjusted to 25.1 g / 100 g. The properties of this feed are listed in the table below...

[0092] Example 2. Chromatographic SMB analysis of MgSSL with a combination of SAC and WBA resins Leave

[0093]Process equipment includes five columns in series, feed pumps, recirculation pumps, elution water pumps, heat exchangers, flow control devices for output liquids, and inlet and product valves for the various process streams. The height of the first three columns is 3.6m, the height of the last two columns is 4.6m, and each column has a diameter of 0.11m.

[0094] The first three columns were filled with Mg 2+ -Form of strongly acidic gel-type cation exchange resin. The divinylbenzene content of the resin was 6.5%, and the average bead size of the resin was 0.38 mm. The last two columns were filled with SO 4 2- Form of acrylic weakly basic anion exchange resin. The divinylbenzene content of the resin was 8.0%, and the average bead size of the resin was 0.32 mm.

[0095] Before separation, use Arbocel B800 as a filter aid for Mg sulfite 2+ The waste liquid is...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method of separating and recovering xylose from a xylose-containing plant-based solution. The method is performed in a chromatographic separation system, which comprises one or more weak base anion exchange resins and optionally one or more other resins selected from strong acid cation exchange resins and weak acid cation exchange resins, by passing the solution through the separation system, followed by recovering at least one fraction enriched in xylose. Optionally, a rhamnose fraction may also be recovered.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods for the separation and recovery of xylose and optionally other sugars such as rhamnose from xylose-containing plant based solutions. The method according to the invention is based on the use of weakly basic anion exchange resins for the separation, optionally in combination with other resins. Background technique [0002] WO 03 / 080872 A1 discloses a chromatographic separation process for the separation of sugars, sugar alcohols, other carbohydrates and mixtures thereof from plant-based solutions and for the separation of sugars and sugar alcohols from each other using weakly basic anion exchange resins. The plant-based solutions used as feed in this separation can be biomass hydrolyzate solutions, molasses solutions and distillers grain solutions as well as process streams like eg xylose, sucrose, glucose and fructose streams. It states that weakly acidic cation exchange resins and / or strongly acidic cation exc...
