Abstract

The invention provides a variable inductor with a spiral inductor, a voltage-controlled oscillator including the same, and a phase-locked loop. A variable inductor includes a spiral inductor over a substrate, the spiral inductor including a loop portion. The variable inductor further includes: a ground ring above the substrate, the ground ring surrounds at least the ring portion of the spiral inductor; and a floating ring above the substrate, the floating ring is disposed between the ground ring and the spiral inductor. The variable inductor further includes an array of switches configured to selectively connect the ground ring to the floating ring.
