Abstract

A method is performed by a network device for enabling session sensitive collection of frames received on ports of links of a link aggregation group. The network device executes the aggregator to collect frames for the aggregator client, where each frame is associated with a service identifier and a session identifier. The service identifier identifies the data flow at the link level of the service. The conversation identifier identifies a data flow at the link aggregation group level, where each conversation data flow consists of an ordered sequence of frames, and where the conversation-sensitive collection maintains the ordered sequence by discarding frames for conversations that are not assigned to a port.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments of the present invention relate generally to link aggregation, and more specifically, to methods and apparatus for session-sensitive collection of link aggregation groups (LAGs). Background technique [0002] Such as Figure 1A As illustrated in , Link Aggregation is used to aggregate multiple links between a pair of nodes 120, 122 in a network to enable transmission of user data on each link in a participating Link Aggregation Group (LAG) 101 Network configuration and procedures (see, eg, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Standard 802.1AX). Aggregating multiple network connections in this way can increase throughput beyond what a single connection can sustain, and / or can be used to provide resiliency in case one of the links fails. "Distributed Resilient Network Interconnection" (DRNI) 102 (cf. clause 8 of IEEE 802.1AX-REV / D1.0) specifies an extension to link aggregation to enable Figure 1B Link aggregation is use...
