Embodiment Construction

[0019] Such as figure 2 Shown is a venturi or venturi tube that may be employed in a shrimp processing system embodying features of the invention. The venturi 16 is the confinement of the conduit 18 which encloses the flow channel 19 which conveys the fluid with the shrimp along the fluid path 20 . The duct has an open inlet end 22 and an opposite open outlet end 23 downstream of the inlet end. The inlet portion 24 of the duct extends downstream from the inlet end and defines a 1 the runner.

[0020] A transition portion 26 of the conduit extends downstream from the input portion 24 to the venturi 16 . The transition portion 26 defines a section of flow channel with a converging cross-section formed by two pairs of converging parabolic walls: a large wall 25 and a small wall 27 . Venturi 16 has a cross-section A 2 , which is smaller than the cross-section A of the input portion 24 1 . exist figure 2 In the example, the cross section of the Venturi tube A 2 The shape...

Abstract

Apparatus and method for hydraulically decapitating and shelling shrimp using the Venturi effect. The fluid with the shrimp is pumped through a piping system that includes one or more venturis. The acceleration of the fluid as it passes through the venturi strips the head from the shrimp and unravels or peels the shell. Venturi tubes can be used in combination with roller peelers to improve peeling quality. The inspection station receives shrimp from the roller peeler and does not fully return the peeled shrimp to the peeler or one or more venturis.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to crustacean processing, and more particularly to apparatus and methods for removing the heads and shells of shrimp. Background technique [0002] Due to the high labor cost of manually peeling small shrimps, the shrimp peeling machine introduced initially is widely used in the shrimp processing industry at present. In particular, roller shellers account for most of the shrimp shelling industry. US Patent 2,778,055 of January 22, 1957 and US Patent 2,537,355 of January 9, 1951 describe the working principle and basic structure of a roller type shrimp sheller for removing the heads and shells of shrimp. However, the fluid and mucus extruded from the heads coat the surface of the shelling rollers, reducing their control of the shrimp and reducing shelling quality. [0003] The removal of shrimp heads by hydrodynamic force is known in US Patent 5,195,921, May 23, 1993. In the patent, fluid with shrimp is pumped ...
