An embodiment of the invention discloses a scheduling method and an electronic device. The method is implemented in steps as follows: the data volume processed by the electronic device in a first monitoring time period is monitored, a processor of the electronic device is configured to be in a first work mode, and the processor in the first work mode processes data by driving a PMD (poll mode driver) in a polling mode; when the processor is found unoccupied in the first monitoring time period according to the data volume processed by the electronic device in the first monitoring time period, the processor is switched from the first work mode to a second work mode, and the processor in the second work mode processes data in a PMD and dormant mode. Two work modes are provided for the processor of the electronic device, wherein power consumption in the first work mode is higher, and power consumption in the second work mode is relatively lower; by monitoring the data volume processed by the processor, the processor can work in the work mode requiring lower power consumption when the actually processed data volume is smaller, and the energy consumption can be reduced.
