[0032]As previously discussed, the need to manually adjust the size / position of the video chat window for the user to multitask is an inconvenient and time-consuming process. Therefore, a picture-in-picture (PIP) technology for video chatting is proposed. The term PIP refers to a smaller video window, such as a video chat window, operating within another larger video window, such as a web browser window. The techniques of the present disclosure include automatically resizing / positioning the video chat window based on the user's interaction (or lack thereof) with the video chat window, and does not require any manual resizing / positioning or other similar input from the user. Such techniques may be especially useful for a user's multitasking purposes, for example, video chatting and web browsing or editing files at the same time.

Abstract

A computer-implemented technique includes initiating, at a computing device having one or more processors, a video chat session with another computing device via a network. The technique includes displaying a video chat window at a computing device in response to initiating a video chat session, the video chat window displaying a video stream received from another computing device. The technique includes detecting, at a computing device, interaction between a user lacking the computing device and a video chat window. The techniques also include, in response to detecting a lack of interaction between the user and the video chat window, performing at the computing device at least one of: automatically resizing the video chat window and automatically resizing the video chat window.
