[0026] The present application relates to supplying fuel to an engine having both port fuel injectors and direct fuel injectors. Figure 1A One example of a system including port fuel injectors and direct fuel injectors is shown. The system includes a spark ignition engine operable on gasoline, alcohol, or a mixture of gasoline and alcohol. Figure 1A The system can include such as Figure 1B Paired fuel injector actuators shown. figure 2 A method for supplying fuel to an engine including a port and direct fuel injectors is shown. image 3 An example cylinder cycle timing diagram including a longer port fuel injection window is shown. Abstract

The invention relates to methods and system for reducing particulate matter produced by an engine. Methods and systems for simultaneously operating port fuel injectors and direct fuel injectors of an internal combustion engine are described. In one example, port fuel injection timing is adjusted to reduce particulate matter formation in the engine so that particulate filter loading may be reduced until a time when the particulate filter may be purged.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 174,167, filed June 11, 2015, entitled "Method and System for Reducing Particulate Matter Generated by Engines," the entire contents of which are herein Incorporated by reference for all purposes. technical field [0003] The present application relates to methods and systems for port and direct injection of fuel into internal combustion engines. The methods and systems are particularly useful for reducing particulate matter formation in internal combustion engines. Background technique [0004] Direct injection engines can generate particulate matter if a portion of the injected fuel is not completely combusted. Particulate matter may be trapped in the filter and burned at a later time to purge the particulate filter. However, there may be conditions that are not conducive to cleaning the particulate filter. For example, purging the par...
