Embodiment Construction

[0018] Implantable medical devices are described herein. For example, provided herein are endoluminal stent-graft devices having integrated anchoring members that can be selectively deployed in situ. Deployment of the anchoring member is also reversible. Accordingly, the stent-graft devices described herein with integrated anchoring members can be retrieved after implantation.

[0019] The anchoring members described herein provide a high degree of migration resistance to the stent-graft device. Accordingly, stent-graft devices with such integrated anchoring members are well suited for use in endoluminal settings such as, but not limited to, the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and vasculature. In some implementations, a stent-graft device described herein is implanted in a patient to seal an opening in a wall of a body cavity. Such openings may result from a variety of medical conditions, eg, resection to remove a lesion, ruptured aneurysm, trauma-induced hole or tear, fistula,...

Abstract

Described herein is an endoluminal stent-graft device with an integrated anchoring member capable of selective deployment in situ. Deployment of the anchoring member is also reversible, thereby facilitating retrieval of the stent-graft device. These stent graft devices are well suited for sealing and repairing defects in the walls of body cavities. These defects may include, but are not limited to, aneurysms and luminal openings. In some embodiments, the endoluminal stent-graft devices provided herein are well suited for use in the gastrointestinal tract, including the colon. This is because the integrated anchoring member provides the stent-graft device with a high level of migration resistance whereby the stent-graft remains resiliently positioned in the desired position within the GI tract despite peristaltic motion of the GI tract .

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to implantable medical devices, and more particularly to endoluminal stent-graft devices having integrated anchoring features that are selectively deployable and removable. Background technique [0002] Stent-graft devices can be implanted in patients to treat a variety of medical conditions. For example, stent-graft devices are implanted in patients to treat aneurysms in blood vessels. As another example, a stent-graft device is implanted in a patient to seal an opening in the wall of a body cavity (eg, the gastrointestinal tract) or organ. As another example, a stent-graft device is implanted in a patient to treat a body lumen having a narrowing such that the device opens or expands the passage of fluid flow through the body lumen. [0003] The need to remove lesions from the wall of the colon is common and increasingly worldwide. When a polyp becomes enlarged and invasive beyond just the mucosal layer of t...
