Abstract

A system for dynamically projecting a logo onto a surface includes a light source, a movable lens, and an actuator. The light source emits light toward the surface. The lens is positioned between the light source and the surface, wherein each lens has a plurality of transparent portions configured to allow certain emitted light to pass through the lens in a corresponding light pattern. Each corresponding light pattern forms a different part of the logo. The actuator moves the lens relative to the emitted light in response to the control signal to thereby cause the logo to be projected onto the surface. A vehicle includes a body with doors, road wheels in contact with a road surface, and a system for projecting a sign onto the road near the doors. The controller can be programmed to perform the method for projecting the sign.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a dynamic sign projection lamp and its usage method. Background technique [0002] Lighting serves a variety of functional and aesthetic purposes. For example, attaching lighting assemblies to or near a surface of a component helps improve the overall visibility of the illuminated surface as well as the surrounding environment. In vehicle applications in particular, exterior lighting is typically provided via headlight and taillight assemblies positioned at the front and rear of the vehicle, respectively. Exterior lighting functions include the daytime running light "DRL" function, positioning functions and turn signal indication. However, conventional lighting arrangements for such operational functions may not be optimal for other purposes, such as alerting the operator of non-driving functions, or alerting the operator of detected presence as the operator approaches, enters or exits the vehicle.
