Abstract

The present invention discloses a speed limit sign detection method based on a image processing technology. In the method, detection and identification of a speed limit sign are performed on a trafficimage acquired by a vehicle-mounted camera. The method comprises: preprocessing an image, and performing appropriate cutting, scaling and augmenting operations on the image according to a position ofa speed limit sign; segmenting the image, considering a specific color and shape of the speed limit sign, extracting a red component from the image by setting a red threshold, then performing roundness detection on the extracted red component, and filtering out an impurity by determining connectivity between a red round ring and a speed limit number and a position of the speed limit number in theround ring; and finally, detecting a target, carrying out measurement of similarity on a suspected speed limit value number and a national standard speed limit value number one by one, returning a maximum similarity value, comparing the maximum similarity value with a set threshold, wherein the speed limit sign has a speed limit value greater than the set threshold, so as to detect the speed limit sign in a complex natural environment and output the speed limit value.
