Abstract

The invention relates to an apparatus for filtering radioactive gases that are generated from nuclear fuel leaked in an accident inside a nuclear power plant and, more specifically, to an apparatus for filtering which is for preventing contamination inside a nuclear reactor building. The apparatus comprises: an inlet pipe portion for drawing in a radioactive gas, generated from a molten core, by means of high pressure in a nuclear reactor cavity; and a filtering portion for removing radioactive substance in the radioactive gas, which has flowed in through the inlet pipe portion, by means of dry and wet procedures in sequences and for discharging the safe gas, from which contaminants have been removed, outside a nuclear reactor building, wherein the inlet pipe portion is connected to the upper outer peripheral side of the nuclear reactor cavity. The invention can prevent contamination of equipment of the nuclear reactor building and the atmosphere, before the radioactive gas is emittedoutside the building, by means of connecting the filtering portion to the upper outer peripheral side of the nuclear reactor cavity by means of the inlet pipe portion. And the invention enables an increase of the filtration rate of the radioactive gas by means of a dual procedure of a dry filter, using the pressure and the heat of the nuclear reactor cavity, and a wet filter using an in-containment refueling water storage tank (IRWST) in the nuclear reactor cavity containing cooling water.
