Embodiment Construction

[0043] According to a first aspect, the present disclosure relates to an electric arc furnace 101 comprising a furnace body 102 comprising an eccentric bottom tapping hole 103, and a tilting device for tilting the electric arc furnace body to an angle of inclination of the electric arc furnace, wherein the eccentric bottom tapping hole 103 connects the inner surface of the furnace body through the top hole to the outer surface of the furnace body through the bottom hole.

[0044] The electric arc furnace 101 of the present disclosure is a furnace that heats materials using an electric arc. Industrial electric arc furnaces range in size from small units of about one ton capacity (for example in foundries for the production of cast iron products) to units of about 400 ton capacity (for example for secondary steelmaking). The temperature of industrial electric arc furnace can be as high as 1800 ℃, and the temperature of electric arc furnace in some laboratories can exceed 3000 ℃....

Abstract

This disclosure includes an electric arc furnace including a body comprising an eccentric bottom tap-hole (EBT) which connects an inner surface of the body to an outer surface of the body, and a tilting device which tilts the body of the electric arc furnace to an electric arc furnace tilting angle, wherein an angle of the EBT through the body is greater than 0 degree and less than 50 degrees, wherein the angle of the EBT through the body is defined with respect to an axis that is perpendicular to the bottom surface of the body. This disclosure includes a process of tapping the electric arc furnace, whereby the electric arc furnace containing a molten metal is tilted at an electric arc furnace tilting angle that is substantially equal to the angle of the EBT, and the molten metal is tappedinto a vessel through the EBT.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 191,099, filed July 10, 2015, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to an electric arc furnace having an angled eccentric bottom taphole and a process for tapping the electric arc furnace when it contains molten metal. Background technique [0004] In steelmaking operations, steel is made in the presence of steelmaking slags, which may contain oxides of metals including calcium, silicon, iron, magnesium, aluminum, manganese, and the like. Prior to casting, primary slag may have a higher oxygen content than acceptable steel, so it is generally not suitable for further steel refining operations. It is preferable not to let this slag flow from the furnace into the collection container, since it may be harmful in the subsequent refining of the steel, for example in ...
