Problems solved by technology

First, in low-power environments where nodes transmit and receive infrequently, the positioning process can be slow or impossible; on the other hand, fast, accurate and robust positioning can consume too much power due to the need to transmit repeated bursts power of
Second, in tree-like networks, triangulation may not be feasible due to the inability to establish a sufficient number of path lengths between pairs of nodes
Third, in indoor environments, limited localization accuracy may prevent determining the exact room a particular node is located in; for example, existing accuracy may prevent determining which side of a wall a particular node is located on

Embodiment Construction

[0040] Disclosed herein are systems and methods for determining the location of wireless sensor nodes in a tree-like network architecture characterized by a mesh. In one example, a system includes a hub for monitoring sensor nodes in a wireless network architecture. A hub includes one or more processing units and RF circuitry for transmitting and receiving communications within a wireless network architecture. Each sensor node has a wireless device with a transmitter and a receiver to enable two-way communication in a wireless network architecture using a hub. The one or more processing units of the hub execute instructions to configure the system to have a tree architecture for communication between the hub and the sensor nodes, to detect a change in range or position of at least one sensor node, and to temporarily configure the system to have The network-based architecture determines the position information of multiple sensor nodes according to the change of detection rang...

Abstract

Systems and methods for determining locations of wireless sensor nodes in a network architecture having mesh-based features are disclosed herein. In one example, a computer-implemented method for localization of nodes in a wireless network includes causing, with processing logic of a hub, the wireless network having nodes to be configured as a first network architecture for a first time period forlocalization. The method further includes determining, with the processing logic of the hub, localization of at least two nodes using at least one of frequency channel overlapping communications, frequency channel stepping communications, multi-channel wide band communications, and ultra-wide band communications for at least one of time of flight and signal strength techniques. The method furtherincludes causing the wireless network to be configured in a second network architecture having narrow-band communications upon completion of localization.
