Embodiment Construction

[0036] The methods and apparatus disclosed herein provide an operating system for a dual condenser loop heat pipe for a satellite with a solar quadrature radiator. The system of the present disclosure enables heat to be removed from satellite surfaces (ie, east and west) whose thermal environment is too extreme for conventional thermal control systems currently used in satellites. The system of the present invention enables satellites to be more competitive in the satellite market by utilizing the east and west surfaces of the spacecraft to allow the satellite to dissipate heat more efficiently.

[0037] The system of the present disclosure provides a method for aboard a spacecraft in geosynchronous orbit (GEO) or other orbits such as medium earth orbit (MEO), low earth orbit (LEO) and super geosynchronous orbit (super GEO) The thermal control technology used. The disclosed system uses heat-dissipating surfaces whose external diurnal thermal environment is such that these sur...

Abstract

Satellite thermal management systems, methods for use in satellite thermal management systems, and methods of installing satellite thermal management systems into integrated satellites are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the disclosed method for a satellite thermal management system includes heating a liquid in an evaporator to convert the liquid to vapor. The method further includes passively circulating steam within the conduit from the evaporator to the non-sunlit first heat sink and the sun-lit second heat sink. Also, the method includes converting the vapor to liquid while the vapor is within the first heat sink that is not illuminated by the sun. Further, the method includes passively circulating liquid within the conduit from the unsunlit first heat sink to the evaporator.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to a dual condenser loop heat pipe. In particular it relates to dual condenser loop heat pipes for satellites with sun-normal radiators. Background technique [0002] Currently, conventional systems for thermal management onboard spacecraft, such as satellites, allow heat generated from on-board electronics to escape from the north-facing and south-facing surfaces of the spacecraft. The north-facing and south-facing surfaces of the spacecraft present a cooler environment than the east-facing and west-facing surfaces of the spacecraft. These conventional systems for thermal control do not allow much heat to escape from the east-facing and west-facing surfaces of the spacecraft because the sun shines directly on them at high incidence angles every day. A system that also allows heat to escape from the east-facing and west-facing surfaces of the spacecraft would make the spacecraft more thermally efficient. [0003] Accor...
