Problems solved by technology

[0009] Although the above document provides a solution to the problem of handling film dressings by utilizing a three-part release liner system, there is still the risk that the side section of the dressing covered by the release liner may fall onto the wound when the dressing is applied on, or during the removal of the side sections of the release liner, the user may interfere with the incision
This can lead to contamination of the wound site

Embodiment Construction

[0068] Hereinafter, some embodiments of the present invention will be described in further detail with reference to illustrative drawings.

[0069] Figure 1a Dressings with lateral (x) and longitudinal (y) extents are shown.

[0070]As used herein, the term "transverse extent" or "transverse direction" is a direction extending parallel to the smallest linear dimension of an article. In the figures, the transverse direction is parallel to the x-axis.

[0071] A "transverse edge" of a dressing, wound pad, adhesive layer, apertured area, or release liner, or any part thereof, is an edge extending in the longitudinal direction, ie parallel to the y-axis.

[0072] The "longitudinal extent" or "longitudinal direction" is orthogonal to the transverse extent or direction. Thus, in the figures, the longitudinal direction is parallel to the y-axis.

[0073] A "longitudinal edge" of a dressing, wound pad, adhesive layer, apertured area, or release liner, or any part thereof, is an ed...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a dressing having a lateral (x) and a longitudinal (y) extension. The dressing comprises a backing layer, a wound pad contoured by a pair of lateral edges extending inparallel to each other in the lateral direction, and an adhesive layer having a wound facing surface and a non-wound facing surface. The wound pad is arranged between the backing layer and the adhesive layer, and the backing layer extends beyond the periphery of the wound pad to define a border portion along the contour of the wound pad. A release liner is releasably attached to the wound facingsurface of the adhesive layer. The release liner is divided by a first dividing line extending in the lateral direction of the dressing to form at least a first removable portion, and a second removable portion, wherein the first and the second portions overlap along the first dividing line to form a first grip member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a dressing comprising a backing layer, a wound pad and an adhesive layer. A release liner is releasably attached to the wound-facing surface of the adhesive layer. The release liner includes at least first and second removable portions that overlap to form a first grip. Background technique [0002] Wound dressings comprising thin self-adhesive wound covering membranes have gained wide acceptance in wound management due to their softness and ability to conform well to the contours of the skin. Such dressings typically include a wound contact layer with an adhesive coating. The purpose of the adhesive is to adhere to the wound and / or the skin surrounding the wound and to secure the dressing in the desired position. The adhesive used needs to be mild to the skin. [0003] While the thickness and stickiness of dressings are desirable, dressings are typically difficult to handle and apply to a patient. Dressings are no...
