A gasket having concentric or spiral serrations around the aperture on each side of the gasket, and wherein a facing is secured to such serrations, wherein each facing comprises a first layer which isin contact with a respective set of such serrations and a second layer which is in contact with the first layer. Background technique [0002] The use of gaskets in sealing applications is commonplace in many industries. The well-known application of gaskets is to provide a fluid seal between two mating surfaces (such as between the ends of adjacent pipes or conduits), usually in the form of flanged joints, to facilitate assembly and disassembly and better of the seal. Flange joint gaskets typically include a compressible ring defining a bore sized to match the pipe being sealed and a body sized to match the flange mating surface.
