Embodiment Construction

[0013] Referring generally to the drawings, an air intake system having an air filter and a cyclone precleaner is depicted. Cyclone prefilters include a plurality of fins that cause air flow through the prefilter to change from substantially axial flow to substantially swirl flow. As the air flow through the pre-filter increases, the air is swirling at a faster rate, and some of the pollutant particles in the air will be forced out of the airstream before reaching the air filter. The air intake system includes a blower unit 122 having a motor 124 , an impeller 126 and a controller 128 . The blower unit is configured to selectively draw more air through the intake system to increase exhaust air flow (ie, purge air flow) through the pre-filter, thereby increasing the efficiency of the pre-filter.

[0014] refer to figure 1 , shows a schematic diagram of an air intake system 100 for an internal combustion engine 102 according to an exemplary embodiment. The air intake system 1...

Abstract

An air intake system with an air filter and a cyclone pre-cleaner is described. The air intake system consists of a blower unit with a motor, an impeller and a controller. The blower unit is configured to selectively draw more air through the intake system to increase air flow through the pre-cleaner, thereby increasing the efficiency of the pre-cleaner.

Description

technical field [0001] This patent application relates to a filter system for use in connection with internal combustion engines or similar equipment. Background technique [0002] Internal combustion engines typically burn a mixture of fuel (eg, gasoline, diesel, natural gas, etc.) and air. Before entering the engine, intake air typically passes through filter elements to remove contaminants (eg, particulates, dust, water, etc.) from the intake air before being delivered to the engine. Some air filtration systems utilize a pre-filter to remove at least some of the contaminants from the intake air before it passes through the filter element. Using a pre-filter can reduce the amount of pollutants entering the filter element, thereby increasing the life of the filter element and reducing the amount of pollutants ingested by the internal combustion engine. [0003] One type of precleaner is a cyclonic precleaner, which creates a cyclonic flow (ie, vortex) of the intake air th...
