Abstract

It will be recognized here that current approaches to service orientation in M2M systems lack capabilities, especially in terms of value-added services traversing an operator's network. As described herein, nodes or devices at the machine-to-machine (M2M) service layer can utilize value-added services deployed in an operator's network. The M2M service layer can add metadata to downlink traffic so that the metadata can be used to assist in steering and processing data in the operator's Value Added Services (VAS) network. For example, the M2M service layer can use the control plane interface to push policies into the network operator's VAS network and allow functions in the VAS network to extract information from the M2M service layer.
