Abstract

A method that can be used to compensate for voltage drops on cables connected between source and sink devices. The source device delivers an offset current on the channel configuration pin of the source device that causes the voltage on the channel configuration pin of the source device to increase to a selected reference voltage. The offset current is stored in the source device. The source device sinks a sink current originating from the channel configuration pin of the source device, which depends on the stored offset current and voltage drop. The source device generates a compensated supply voltage on a supply pin of the source device that is equal to the reference supply voltage with the added voltage drop within tolerance.
