The method comprises the following steps: S1: parsing an SCD file to generate a connection relationship between a source end IED and a host end IED; S2: establishing a communication connection with an IED device, and obtaining a service message sent by the IED device toa terminal device, and S3: traversing the obtained connection relationship to detect whether a service message type and a unique identifier of the service message in the service message exist in the connection relationship, and if not, creating IED network element information for the IED device. According to the automatic identification method disclosed by the invention, the SCD file is parsed togenerate the connection relationship between the IEDs; and when the service message sent by the newly added LED is received, whether the IED device has been managed by a network management system canbe judged by traversing the connection relationship, and if not, the IED network element information is created for the IED device, thereby realizing the automatic identification and management of theIED device.
