Abstract

The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for forming shaped glass articles. The present invention more particularly relates to an apparatus for forming a three-dimensional shaped glass article, the apparatus comprising: a mold having a shaped surface having a desired surface profile for the shaped glass article and comprising a planar region and a bending region; a planar region plungerhaving a forming surface corresponding to the mold planar region and disposed over the mold planar region; a bending region plunger having a forming surface corresponding to the mold bending region and disposed over the mold bending region; and a heater for heating a region of a glass sheet and disposed above the mold bending region, in which the planar region plunger and the bending region plunger move relative to each other, and in which the mold, the planar region plunger and the bending region plunger are porous.
