Problems solved by technology

However, if the hydraulic pressure is too low, for example in the event of a failure of the fuel pump (high pressure pump), then the required gap width cannot be maintained and the fuel is injected after a very short time based on a small (or in the worst case closed) gaps that are blocked by a correspondingly high pressure drop

Embodiment Construction

[0038] It is pointed out that the embodiments described subsequently represent only a limited selection of possible implementation variants of the invention.

[0039] figure 1 A fuel injector 1 with a hydraulic stop is shown in the closed state. The fuel injector 1 has a housing 2 , a coil 3 , a movable armature 4 , a nozzle needle 5 mechanically coupled or (for example via a driver) coupleable to the armature, a pole shoe 6 and a calibration spring 7 . exist figure 1 In the state shown in , the valve needle rests in the valve seat 8 and thus blocks the orifice 9 . In this state, the gap 10 between the armature 4 and the pole piece therefore has a maximum width.

[0040] When a voltage is applied to the coil 3, the armature 4 is moved towards the pole piece 6 by electromagnetic force. Through the mechanical coupling, the nozzle needle 5 is likewise moved and releases the injection opening 9 for fuel supply. In the case of fuel injectors with idle travel, the mechanical c...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the operation of a fuel injector having a hydraulic stop, the fuel injector having a solenoid drive and a pole piece, the solenoid drive having a movable armatureand a nozzle needle, which can be moved by the armature. The method according to the invention comprises the following: (a) applying (510) a first current profile to the solenoid drive of the fuel injector in order to perform a first injection operation and to thereby inject a predefined injection amount, (b) determining (520) a first value of a system parameter that is indicative of a relationship between the actually injected fuel amount and the predefined fuel amount, (c) determining (530), on the basis of the determined first value of the system parameter, whether the actually injected fuel amount is so much less than the predefined fuel amount that this could be caused by a disproportion between a magnetic force applied to the armature in the direction of the pole piece and an opposite hydraulic force applied to the armature by fuel, and (d) if it was determined that there could be a disproportion between the magnetic force and the hydraulic force, applying (535) a second currentprofile to the solenoid drive of the fuel injector in order to perform a second injection operation, the second current profile being designed in such a way, in comparison with the first current profile, that a smaller magnetic force is applied to the armature in the direction of the pole piece. The invention further relates to an engine controller and to a computer program.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the technical field of operating fuel injectors with hydraulic stops. More particularly, the invention relates to a method for operating a fuel injector with a hydraulic stop, wherein the fuel injector has a magnetic coil drive and a pole piece, wherein the magnetic coil drive has a movable electric An armature and a nozzle needle that can be moved by the armature. The invention also relates to a motor control device for using the method and a computer program for carrying out the method. Background technique [0002] In fuel injectors with a so-called hydraulic stop, there is no direct contact between the armature and the pole piece when the fuel injector is opened, since the fuel flows between the armature and the pole piece and is opposed to the magnetic force here. Hydraulic pressure is applied to the armature. In the open state of the fuel injector, the two forces balance each other such that there is a gap of substanti...
