Problems solved by technology

This approach has two problems: With asynchronous HARQ, the UE assumes that all transmitted UL HARQ processes are successful (set local state to ACK)
[0010] Furthermore, the concept of always-on PHICH transmissions does not apply to time-division duplex (TDD) modes or, more specifically, to unlicensed frequency bands where both UL and DL transmissions may occupy the same frequency band

Embodiment Construction

[0049] According to some embodiments, it is proposed herein to enhance IUA operation by not forcing the eNB to always transmit the PHICH. When configured with IUA, the UE may be configured to ignore PHICH and always assume NACK for received HARQ feedback. In this way, a non-adaptive retransmission is performed in case the eNB-response is missed to the previous transmission. This means that no data is lost on HARQ. Additionally, the eNB may acknowledge (ACK) the successful transmission from the UE based on the PDCCH indication. This results in new data transmission on the current HARQ process. Furthermore, UEs may be provided with the same UL SPS resources and they may collide. The present disclosure also outlines methods for handling these conflicts. In order to keep the resource and energy efficiency of the network optimal also for non-sporadic traffic, the present disclosure also proposes a mechanism for iterative switching to PHICH-based IUA and dynamic uplink schedulin...

Abstract

According to some embodiments, a method for use in a wireless device is disclosed. The method includes transmitting uplink data to a network node. Uplink data is transmitted according to a semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) configuration obtained from a network node. Uplink data is transmitted without padding when no data is available for transmission. The method also includes retransmitting the uplink data to the network node until an indication to transmit new uplink data is received. The indication is received from the network node via a control channel.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly, to instant uplink access (IUA) in wireless networks. Background technique [0002] The embodiments disclosed herein are within the context of Long Term Evolution (LTE), ie, within the context of an Evolved Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN). It should be understood that the problems and solutions described herein are equally applicable to radio access networks and user equipment (UE) implementing other access technologies and standards (eg, 5G NR). LTE is used as an example technology in which some embodiments are suitable, and thus, the use of LTE in this description is particularly useful for understanding problems and solutions to problems. [0003] In LTE, resources for uplink (UL) transmissions are granted by an evolved Node B (eNB). This can be done dynamically, ie the eNB schedules UL transmissions for each transmission time interval (TTI). Alt...
