The method includes receiving, at a first device, a first signal from a second device over a communication channel via a plurality of subcarriers, and sampling the first signal to obtain a sample symbol. The method also includes generating a second signal based on the obtained sample symbol using a predefined direct association between the sample symbol and the payload. The second signal indicates a payload carried by the first signal on a paysubcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers.
