Abstract

A fifth generation (5G) or pre-5G communication system for supporting the higher data rate after a fourth generation (4G) communication system like a long term evolution (LTE) is provided. An uplink transmission method is provided, which can increase the uplink coverage through the improvement of the reception reliability of the uplink control information and the data information. A method by a terminal for performing the random access in the wireless communication system, comprises receiving the information for performing the random access from a base station; determining a frequency band toperform the random access between the first and second frequency bands based on the information for performing the random access; and transmitting a random access preamble on the determined frequencyband.
