Embodiment Construction

[0025] Referring now to the accompanying drawings, in particular figure 1 and 2 , shows a magnetic flow meter assembly 10 having electrodes (70a-e) disposed about a tubular body, wherein at least one of the electrodes includes a temperature sensing element 72 inserted therein through an opening 75. Magnetic flow meter assembly 10 is configured to measure the flow rate of fluid through a tubular body using electrodes 70(a,b) and a pair of coil assemblies 14 configured to generate a magnetic field. The temperature sensing element may be located sufficiently close to the contact end 76 of the electrodes (70a-e) to allow good heat dissipation to the contact end 76 without actual contact with the fluid flow, thereby enabling heat conduction therebetween. In this way, the magnetic flow meter assembly is capable of simultaneously measuring fluid flow rate and fluid temperature.

Abstract

A magnetic flowmeter assembly is provided having electrodes disposed about a tubular body, wherein at least one of the electrodes includes a temperature sensing element inserted therein. The magneticflowmeter assembly is configured to measure the flow rate of fluid flowing through the tubular body. The temperature sensing element can be inserted within an electrode such that it is well dissipatedto the electrode surface in contact with the fluid flow, thus placing the temperature sensing element in effective thermal contact with the fluid. As such, the magnetic flowmeter assembly enables simultaneous measurement of the fluid flow rate and fluid temperature.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to sensors for measuring fluids and, more particularly, to magnetic flow meter assemblies for flow and temperature measurement. Background technique [0002] Temperature measurements are often taken as secondary measurements, using other types of analytical or physical probes to measure fluid flow characteristics or properties. Such temperature measurement will typically be achieved using a separate measurement element or with a measurement device embedded in the internal part of the other analytical / physical probe. Examples may include pH electrodes including embedded RTDs or thermistors. Specifically, an RTD may be included within a capillary within a glass measuring element of a pH sensor. Other examples may include a thermowell, which includes a metal tube with a temperature measuring element located therein, where the thermowell may serve as a solution ground electrode by having an electrical connection at...
