Embodiment approach

[0042] According to another embodiment of the invention, the rubber composition comprises, for example, 40-70 phr (parts by weight per percent of total elastomer) of a high Tg elastomer as a blend with 30 to 50 phr of a low Tg elastomer; according to another In one example, it contains all 100 phr of one or more SBRs prepared in solution.

[0043] According to another embodiment of the invention, the diene elastomer of the composition according to the invention comprises BR (as a low Tg elastomer) exhibiting a cis-1,4-structure level (mol %) greater than 90% Blends with one or more S-SBR or E-SBR as high Tg elastomer(s).

[0044] The compositions described herein may comprise a single diene elastomer or a mixture of several diene elastomers, one or more diene elastomers may be used in combination with any type of synthetic elastomer other than diene elastomers , and indeed even in combination with polymers other than elastomers, such as thermoplastic polymers.

[0093] Sample Preparation of Compounds

[0094] Additive Blending: BUTYL 365 was blended with other components according to Table 1 to produce a butyl compound. All components are listed in phr or parts per hundred polymer units. These compounds are mixed in a suitable mixer using at least two consecutive runs known to those skilled in the art. The mixing temperature range is between 110°C and 210°C. The duration of mixing for each individual mixing step is between 1 and 30 minutes, depending on the desired properties.

Wurzinger [0002] Cross References to Related Applications [0003] This application claims priority and benefit to USSN 62 / 655,980, filed April 11, 2018, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. [0004] field of invention [0005] This invention relates to butyl rubbers useful as tire tread modifiers. [0006] Background of the invention [0007] Tire tread compounds are important compounds in tires that determine wear, traction and rolling resistance. The technical challenge was to achieve excellent traction, low rolling resistance while providing good tread wear. The challenge is the tradeoff between wet traction and rolling resistance / tread wear. Increasing the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the compound will provide better wet traction but at the same time increase rolling resistance and tread wear. There is a need to develop tread compound additives that provide go...
