Embodiment Construction

[0029] A detailed description of one or more embodiments of the disclosed apparatus and method is presented herein by way of example and not limitation with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0030] exist figure 1 The stator for the electric machine is generally denoted by 10 in the middle. The stator 10 includes a stator body 12 supporting a plurality of windings 14 . The stator body 12 may be formed of an electrically conductive material and include a plurality of slots (not shown), which in the embodiment shown are formed in an inner annular surface (also not shown). The winding 14 includes a braided portion 16 and a connector lead portion 18 . Braid 16 defines a portion of winding 14 where point conductors may be interleaved to establish a desired form factor and electrical balance. The connector leads 18 define a portion at the terminal ends of the conductors that form the windings 14, which may be interconnected and coupled to, for example, a power source.

Abstract

A method of installing a winding in a stator includes forming a first multi-conductor winding including a first plurality of terminal leads and a second plurality of terminal leads, forming a second multi-conductor winding including a third plurality of terminal leads and a fourth plurality of terminal leads, introducing the first multi-conductor winding into a plurality of stator slots of a stator body, introducing the second multi-conductor winding into the plurality of stator slots of the stator body radially inwardly of the first multi-conductor winding, and connecting the second pluralityof terminal leads with the third plurality of terminal leads to form a twelve conductor stator winding.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application claims the benefit of an earlier filing date of US Provisional Application No. 62 / 717,699, filed August 10, 2018, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] The stator of an electric motor or generator consists of two parts and insulating material. The first part is the laminate. Laminates are typically formed from laminates of electrical steel that are formed (stamped, rolled or bent) into annular shapes with ID, OD and stack height. The laminate also includes slots open to ID or OD. A slot has a width and a depth. Between each slot is a laminate tooth extending from the ID or OD laminate back iron (yoke). [0004] The second part is the winding. The windings are usually formed from insulated copper wire. It should be understood, however, that other conductive materials such as aluminum may be used. A winding consists of multiple phases - typi...
