Embodiment Construction

[0020] With reference now to the accompanying drawings, specifically figure 1 , figure 1 A view 150 of a work machine 152 is depicted. Work machine 152 may be realized by a large mining truck or the like. Work machine 152 includes a plurality of ground engaging members 160 that support a frame or underframe 162 . Work machine 156 may be controlled by an operator located within cab 156 . To assist the operator in seeing areas around the worksite that may be obstructed by dump bed 158 , ground engaging member 160 , etc., the work machine may be equipped with a rear view mirror. For example, work machine 152 includes a rearview mirror 154-L on the left side of the machine (from the operator's perspective) and a rearview mirror 154-R on the right side of the machine (not depicted in perspective view 150. The rearview mirrors 154-L and 154-R may be implemented by adjustable rearview mirrors, such as the adjustable rearview mirror assemblies disclosed herein.

Abstract

In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure an adjustable mirror assembly for a work machine is disclosed. The adjustable mirror assembly includes a support bracket adapted to be attached to the work machine and an intermediate bracket. The intermediate bracket interfaces with a back surface of a mirror and with the support bracket. The adjustable mirror assembly includes a first linear actuator for rotating the mirror about a pitch axis. The first linear actuator to rotate the mirror about a pitch axis attaches to the support bracket and to the intermediate bracket. A second linear actuator to rotate the mirror about a yaw axis is attached to a point fixed to the intermediate bracket and to the back surface of the mirror.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to adjustable rear view mirror assemblies for work machines such as large mining trucks. Background technique [0002] Work machines, such as large mining trucks, are equipped with large rear view mirrors to allow the operator to see the machine's surroundings while navigating around the worksite with the rear view mirrors on. The mirrors need to be adjusted because different operators of the work machine prefer to have the mirrors in different positions (eg, rotate at different positions about the pitch and yaw axes). Given the size and ground clearance of the mirrors for different work machines, manually adjusting the mirrors may take a considerable amount of time, and may even require multiple people on the work machine to reposition the mirrors. For example, the assignee built a large mining truck that was 50 feet long, weighed over 1 million pounds, and included rearview mirrors that were 20 feet off the gr...
