example 1

[0079] Example 1 can include an apparatus for treating a stone mass using an acoustic probe including an acoustic transducer. The apparatus may include: a controller circuit configured to provide a plurality of drive signal components corresponding to a plurality of frequencies to generate an acoustic resonance frequency of an acoustic probe targeting a calculus mass; and an output interface configured to is configured to deliver a plurality of drive signal components to an acoustic transducer to produce a target acoustic resonance frequency.

example 2

[0080] Example 2 may include example 1, wherein the acoustic transducer includes one or more piezoelectric members configured to receive a plurality of drive signal components from the controller circuit and convert the plurality of drive signal components to components are converted into sound energy.

example 3

[0081] Example 3 may include any of Examples 1-2, further comprising a waveguide extending distally from the acoustic transducer, the waveguide being configured to propagate a waveform based on the target acoustic resonance frequency.

Abstract

A method of treating a stone block may include generating acoustic energy using an ultrasound probe and fragmenting the block. The method may include altering the frequency at which the fragmentation occurs to process the block with the resonant frequency. The ultrasound probe may have a distal tip for contact with the block, wherein the tip has a morphology for concentrating stress on the block. The ultrasound probe may have two or more ultrasound horn poles to allow for higher voltage and power levels.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 907,971, filed September 30, 2019, which is incorporated herein in its entirety. technical field [0003] This document relates to techniques and example ultrasound probes for using lithotripsy to break up obstructions such as physiological "stones". Background technique [0004] Medical borescopes were first developed in the early 1800s and have been used to examine the inside of the body. A typical endoscope has a distal end that includes an optical or electronic imaging system and a proximal end that has controls, for example, for manipulating the device or for viewing the images. An elongated shaft connects the proximal and distal ends. Some endoscopes enable a physician to pass tools down one or more working channels, for example, to excise tissue or retrieve objects. [0005] Over the past few decades, several advance...
