Abstract

Disclosed is an apparatus for generating an electrical signal indicative of a temperature, the apparatus comprising: a first thin film transistor (TFT) comprising a first source, a first gate, and a first drain, the first drain configured to receive a reference current; and a second TFT including a second source, a second gate, and a second drain, the first gate and the second gate both configured to receive the same gate voltage, where the first TFT and the second TFT are configured such that a temperature correlation of the first TFT differs from a temperature correlation of the second TFT such that an output current at the second TFT and the second drain depends on temperature. The temperature correlation of the output current can be controlled by selecting appropriate design parameters for the first TFT and the second TFT. A method of designing the apparatus to generate an output current having a target temperature correlation is also disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a device for generating an electrical signal indicative of temperature. Background technique [0002] Circuits and devices that can detect temperature changes are known. For example, the threshold voltage of a Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) can be used to detect temperature changes, or a thermistor can be used to generate an output current that increases with temperature. In both cases, the resulting signal can be used for temperature regulation (such as in an overheating protection circuit), but additional circuitry is required to reduce the output current in response to a sensed increase in current. Furthermore, the design freedom for modifying the temperature dependence of the output signal may be limited in such circuits. Therefore, there is a need in the art for a circuit design that can be adapted to generate an output signal with a varying temperature dependence. Contents of the invention ...
