Abstract

The time required to perform communication between an entertainment device (12) and a manual controller (200) connected to the entertainment device (12) having complex functions is reduced. The type of control data output from the manual controller (200) when a control unit including direction keys is operated is defined according to an application program recorded in an optical disc (OD) and read by the entertainment device (12). The manual controller (200) has a setting register for setting the type of such control data. After a control data from the entertainment device (12) is defined in the setting register of the manual controller, the CPU of the manual controller (200) only sends the data. By thus limiting the type of control data to be sent, the time required to perform communication between the entertainment device (12) and the manual control (200) is shortened.
