Problems solved by technology

However, these methods still do not solve the above-mentioned problem of eliminating browning while obtaining a satisfactory shade closest to transparent
[0009] In addition, the conventional method has the disadvantage that the removed fatty alcohol still has a brown color and cannot be reused until it is refined and its color is removed in the distillation process
This additional step complicates the manufacturing process and increases cost

Embodiment 1

[0061] 155 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid catalyst were added under vacuum.

[0062] The pressure was reduced to 20 torr, then the mixture was heated and reacted at a temperature between 116-120°C for 100 minutes.

[0063] Add 22g to this mixture with a specific surface area of 100m 2 / g, magnesium oxide powder with a water content of 1%. The mixture was stirred at a heating temperature of 95°C for 30 minutes.

[0064] The neutralized mixture is distilled under vacuum pressure below 0.5 torr, heating temperature below 200°C. At this point, the distilled mixture contains less than 2% by weight of the distilled reaction product of residual alcohol.

[0065] The distilled mixture was diluted with 34 kg of purified ionized water, the above amount being equal to the amount of the distilled mixture.

[0066] The diluted solution had a water content of 50% and a Gardner color number of 5.4.

[0067] 0.9 kg of 30% sodium hydroxide aqueous solution was added to the diluted mixtur...

Embodiment 2

[0071] The diluted solution had a water content of 50% and a Gardner color number of 6.0.

[0072] The bleached solution had a light and transparent alkyl glycoside with a water content of 49.5%, a transmittance of 93%, and an APHA of 48. The collected alcohol had an APHA of 10. Comparative example A

Embodiment 3

[0083] In a container equipped with an overhead stirrer and an addition funnel, add 22 parts by weight of C 8 , 17 parts by weight C 10 , 47 parts by weight C 12 and 14 parts by weight C 14 mixture of fatty alcohols. Start stirring, then mix in the glucose. The quantity of the mixture is 100 kg, and the weight ratio of fatty alcohol to glucose is 3.5.

Abstract

A process for preparing pale-colored and transparent alkyl glycosides by reacting glucose and high fatty alcohol in presence of an acid catalyst is disclosed. The process comprises the steps of admixing, reacting, neutralizing, distilling, diluting and bleaching. In the above process, the reaction step is controlled by a product color and an amount of unreacted glucose, the neutralizing step is controlled by alkali metal oxdie powders and the product color, the distilling step is controlled by an unreacted residual fatty alcohol, and the diluting step is controlled by refined ion water and sealed vessel without oxygen. Further, the process provides a method of recycling collected fatty alcohol without being refined.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] (a) Field of Invention [0002] The present invention relates to a method for preparing alkyl glycosides, more particularly to a method for preparing light-colored and transparent alkyl glycosides. [0003] (b) Related technical description [0004] Alkyl glycosides are nonionic surfactants made from natural substances that provide detergency, foaming, emulsifying and wetting properties comparable to other nonionic surfactants. Alkyl glycosides have the advantage of reducing water pollution when used in detergents due to their excellent biodegradability and also because they are hypoallergenic, making them suitable for reducing skin irritations commonly associated with detergents allergic reaction. [0005] Typically, alkyl glycosides are prepared by reacting a sugar with a lower fatty alcohol such as butanol in the presence of an acid catalyst such as sulfuric or hydrochloric acid and then reacting the sugar with a higher fatty alcohol, s...
