Embodiment Construction

[0035] Since these illustrations sufficiently exemplify the principles underlying the invention, the novel extractor is best first explained in terms of its mathematical equivalent. A standard extractor on top of M will do the following:

[0036] Output ( N ) = Σ i = 0 M - 1 Input ( N * M + i ) M

[0037] This means that the output process is M times slower than the input process, and that the output is the average of the past block of M samples.

[0038] It is simple for a decimator to only process samples equal to powers...

Abstract

A decimator for use in digital signal processing has an input line (in) for receiving a sequence of input samples at a first sampling rate, a first register for accumulating input samples for which the order in the sequence is a power of a predetermined number greater than one and a control unit for outputting samples from the first register at a second sampling rate. A second register may be provided for accumulating those samples which are not stored in the first register, in which case the first register may further be arranged to accumulate input samples for which the order in the sequence is a power of the predetermined number combined with a current accumulated value in the second register.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of digital signal processing, in particular to a decimator. Background technique [0002] Digital filtering is employed in many fields, for example, in measurement systems, source coding, echo cancellation, etc. One of the more common filtering functions is one out of ten. [0003] A decimator is a device that combines samples into a single sample. It typically consists of an electronic hardware structure (Application Specific Integrated Circuit ASIC, Field Programmable Gate Array FPGA, etc.) or software (Digital Signal Processing DSP) and can be used in any environment that allows sampling. The decimation function typically has two goals, namely to reduce the number of samples and to increase the accuracy of the samples. [0004] Sometimes the 1 in 10 fringe effect is a useful property, namely its low-pass nature. Rapid changes between samples 'disappear' or, at best, eventually get balanced. Although th...
