Problems solved by technology

In such an event, the possibility exists that the mobile terminal may interfere with other satellites in Earth arc orbits adjacent to the target satellite with which the mobile terminal is communicating
[0004] It is also recognized that Fixed Service Satellite (FSS) operators may have difficulty locating interference from VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) systems comprising simple terminals at thousands of remote sites

Embodiment Construction

[0013] see figure 1 , in which is shown a system 10 for implementing the preferred method of the present invention. System 10 provides data content to and from multiple mobile platforms 12a-12f in one or more different coverage areas 14a and 14b. System 10 generally includes ground segment 16 , a plurality of satellites 18 a - 18 f forming space segment 17 , and mobile terminals 20 disposed on each mobile platform 12 . Mobile platform 12 may include an aircraft, a pleasure boat, or any other moving vehicle. Therefore, the exemplification of the mobile platform 12 as an aircraft in the figures herein and the reference of the mobile platform as an aircraft in the following description should not be construed as limiting the applicability of the system 10 to aircraft only.

[0014] Space segment 17 may include any number of satellites 18 in each coverage area 14a and 14b needed to provide coverage for each area. Satellites 18a, 18b, 18d and 18e are preferably Ku or Ka band sat...

Abstract

A method for rapidly identifying which of a plurality of mobile radio frequency (RF) terminals is causing interference to one or more non-target satellites, wherein the mobile radio frequency (RF) terminals are placed on corresponding Multiple mobile platforms are used to access target relay satellites that are in orbit adjacent to the target satellite. The method includes dividing a plurality of mobile RF terminals into two groups and ordering terminals of one group to stop transmission. A check is then made to determine which group of terminals is causing interference. That particular group is then sequentially subdivided by a factor of 2 and alternately checked whether it still causes interference until a single mobile terminal is identified as the source of interference. This bisection technique, which sequentially subdivides all terminals into smaller and smaller groups, can quickly identify the terminal causing interference from a large number of terminals visiting the target transponder satellite.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to Provisional Application No. 60 / 281,460, filed April 4,2001. technical field [0002] The present invention relates to a mobile RF terminal required for two-way communication with a base station via a satellite link, and more particularly to a method for identifying which of a plurality of mobile terminals is causing an attack on a nearby target satellite by using a binary search pattern. Method and apparatus for interfering with multiple satellites. Background technique [0003] With mobile RF terminals located on mobile platforms such as aircraft, cruise ships, and other mobile platforms that communicate with ground stations via repeating satellites, although there are security devices that can be built into mobile terminals, there is still an extremely small possibility that the terminal malfunctions in unexpected ways. In such an event, there is a possibility that the mobile terminal may interfere with other satellites adjacent ...
