Embodiment Construction

[0077] An embodiment of the present invention will now be described in detail with reference to these illustrations.

[0078] Group Formation / Management System 1

[0079] 【Structure of group formation / management system

[0080] As shown in FIG. 1 , a group formation / management system 1 is composed of an Authorized Domain (AD) server 100 , a playback device 200 , an in-vehicle device 300 , an IC card 400 and a DVD 500 .

[0081] The AD server 100 and the playback device 200 connected to a monitor 251 and a speaker 252 are placed in a user's home and connected online. The in-vehicle device 300 is installed in a car owned by the user. IC card 400 and DVD 500 can be connected to AD server 100 and in-vehicle device 300 . The IC card 400 is subordinate to the AD server 100, and the AD server 100 operates only when the IC card is connected thereto.

[0082] The group formation / management system 1 is a system in which the AD server 100 manages an Authorized Domain (AD), which is ...

Abstract

A highly-convenient content duplication management system for allowing users to duplicate a content as long as the duplication is in compliance with a given usage right. In the system, a request destination device stores a content and a permitted number of duplications of the content. In response to a duplication request, the request destination device judges whether or not the request source device is an in-group device that belongs to the same group as the request destination device. When judging that the request source device is an in-group device, the request destination device transmits the content together with a permitted number that is equal to or smaller than the currently stored permitted number. The request destination device then updates the currently stored permitted number by subtracting the permitted number transmitted.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to techniques for managing the replication of content when content is used in a networked environment. Background technique [0002] Traditionally there have been several well-known techniques for imposing limits on unlimited copying of content. An example is copy generation management that prohibits copying or duplication (third-generation duplication) of duplicated content. Another example is disclosed in Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2000-357213, which requires mutual authentication between the sending end and the receiving end and permits the reproduction of content based on the authentication result. [0003] The above copy generation management technology and a technology disclosed in the above publication are mainly applied to a system composed of a recording apparatus and a recording medium. Examples of such a recording device include a personal computer and a recorder, and examples of su...
