Abstract

A valve member includes an axially movable spool valve rotatably mounted in the valve member to cause the way that fluid is communicated between the inlet and outlet ports of the device and the volume chambers thereof. An outer surface of the spool has a configuration to react to fluid pressure to effect the timing between the gear set and the valving of valve member and that the timing therebetween will be adjusted when the spool valve is moved axially. A valve actuator comprising a spring loaded plunger controlled by fluid pressure at the inlet and outlet ports is in physical contact with one end of the valve spool.

Background technique [0001] Spool action "lag" may occur in the volume chamber of the gerotor gear set. For example, when a volume chamber is used as the maximum volume conversion chamber, the action of the slide valve lasts for one or two degrees of rotation, so that the high-pressure fluid is communicated to the volume chamber, and the volume of the chamber does not change. This transient effect is such that the volume chamber begins to shrink while still communicating with high pressure. Subsequently, the valve action closes and the cavity shrinks further, the pressure in the cavity cannot be relieved due to the overlap in the valve action and the fluid pressure will rise rapidly creating a pressure increase or spike in the cavity.
