Abstract
A method for combating biofouling of a protected surface (27) comprising: while the protected surface (27) is partially immersed in a wet environment:- providing anti-biofouling light (9),- providing a directly illuminated optical means (5. 105(a), 105(b), 205, 302) near the protected surface (27), wherein the optical means (5, 105(a), 105(b), 205, 302) has an emitting surface (23. 304) and- emitting the anti-biofouling light (9) from the emitting surface (23, 304) of the optical means (5, 105(a). 105(b), 205, 302) in a direction away from the protected surface (27).
