Method for monitoring and non-destructive testing of an endlessly circulating conveyor belt of a belt conveyor system, with at least one metallic belt tensioning device embedded in the conveyor belt and / or with at least one metallic marker embedded in the conveyor belt; wherein the method uses at least one belt diagnostic coil with which the conveyor belt is scanned without contact; wherein a measurement signal influenced by the circulating conveyor belt is continuously recorded by means of the belt diagnostic coil; where several belt diagnostic coils with overlapping measuring tracks are used, or a belt diagnostic coil extending over the width of the conveyor belt is used, or a belt diagnostic coil is arranged movable on a coil carrier; wherein the measurement signal is transmitted to a data acquisition device and the measurement signal is evaluated with regard to a deviation from a reference signal, so that - the condition of metal belt tensioning devices integrated into the conveyor belt, and / or - the condition of belt connections, and / or - the condition of the conveyor belt can be diagnosed based on significant changes in a measurement signal that deviates from the reference signal; where the belt diagnostic coil is used as part of a series resonant circuit that is excited with an alternating voltage.
