LIDAR SYSTEM AND ENVIRONMENTAL SENSING METHOD

Abstract

The application relates to a lidar system (10) for a vehicle, wherein the lidar system (10) comprises: an optical transmitter (12) configured to transmit an optical signal (L) on a transmit path (31); an optical receiver (14) configured to receive the optical signal (L) on a receive path (33); a polygon mirror (16) having side faces and two opposing base faces, each configured as a polygon, wherein the polygon mirror (16) is rotatable about an axis of rotation (A) extending through the base faces, wherein a first of the side faces has a first mirror surface (S1, S2, S3, S4) configured to deflect the optical signal (L) on the transmit path (31) to a detection area (22); and wherein a second of the side faces has a second mirror surface (S1, S2, S3, S4) configured to deflect the optical signal (L) on the receive path (33) from to deflect the detection area (22),wherein at least one of the mirror surfaces (S1, S2, S3, S4) is inclined to the axis of rotation (A). The application further relates to a vehicle (20) which has a lidar system (10) and methods for environmental sensing.
