Abstract

System (1) for collision warning for vehicles (2) with an evaluation unit (10) and at least one sensor assembly (11) connected to the evaluation unit (10) via a signal, each sensor assembly having at least one sensor module (12A, 12C, 12B) configured to determine the position of an object (4) within a respective sensor area (13A, 13C, 13B), wherein the sensor assemblies (11) are positioned in or around a central point such that the sensor modules (12A, 12C, 12B) of the sensor assemblies (11) jointly cover a monitoring area (15) completely surrounding the central point through their respective sensor areas and are configured to determine the position of the object (4) within their respective sensor area (13A, 13C, 13B) and transmit it to the evaluation unit (10), wherein the evaluation unit (10) is configured to use the sensor modules (12A, 12C,12B) determined positions of the object (4) within the respective sensor areas (13A, 13C, 13B) to determine the position of the object within the monitoring area (15), to determine an expected movement trajectory (4B) of the object by means of temporally successive positions of the object (4), and to determine, by means of the expected movement trajectory (4B), whether the object (4) reaches or crosses a safety area (16) defined in relation to the central point.
