[0002] Technical Field

[0003] The invention relates to an immune system-enhancing food supplement to be used against cough and cold.

[0004] The invention relates to an immune system-enhancing herbal food supplement prepared against cough and cold, from extracts of Sideritis, Tilia, Zingiber, and Cinnamomum.

[0005] State of the Art

[0006] Food supplements are integral parts of healthy life and are used for preventive and therapeutic purposes. It is used both to eliminate vitamin and mineral deficiencies and to avoid or treat possible ailments. Cough and cold are one of the most frequently encountered disorders in daily life. However, for the food supplement to provide the desired benefit to the patient / user, it must have satisfactory properties that do not cause problems in terms of taste and odor. This is especially important for children and the elderly. In the technical field, there is a need for new food supplements that will provide the required benefit and will not cause problems in terms of taste and odor.

[0007] In the patent and literature search conducted for the state of the art, patent document US11596664 B2 has been found. The food supplement containing Sideritis plant extract and the production method of the mentioned food supplement are described. It is stated that the food supplement mentioned in the document increases cognitive performance. However, it does not contain the other 3 plant extracts in this herbal formulation and there is no description of the cough / cold disorder.

[0008] As a result, due to the above-mentioned problems and the inadequacy of the existing solutions on the subject, it has become necessary to improve in the relevant technical field.

[0009] Brief Description of the Invention

[0010] The present invention relates to a food supplement that meets the above-mentioned requirements, eliminates all disadvantages, and brings some additional advantages.

[0011] The invention is inspired by existing conditions and aims to solve the above-mentioned problems.

[0012] The main purpose of the invention is to develop a new food supplement for the treatment and cure of cold, sore throat, and cough.

[0013] Another purpose of the invention is to obtain a standardized food supplement which, unlike the state of the art, is produced with the same quality in each preparation. Another purpose of the invention is to obtain a new food supplement that can be used as a beverage in the prevention and treatment of colds with coughs and contributes to the treatment. Through the invention, the taste and odor problem encountered in the prior art is also eliminated.

[0014] The presented invention is purposed to prepare food supplements and herbal medicine formulations that protect against cough and cold and enhance the immune system from a mixture of mountain tea (Sideritis), ginger (Zingiber), linden (Tilia), and cinnamon (Cinnamomum) extracts.

[0015] The structural and characteristic features and all advantages of the invention will be more clearly understood by the table given below and the detailed description written with references to this table. Therefore, the evaluation should be made by considering the table and detailed descriptions.

[0016] Detailed Description of the Invention

[0017] In this detailed description, preferred embodiments of the invention are described for a better understanding of the subject matter.

[0018] The invention relates to an immune-boosting food supplement for use against coughs and colds. The inventive food supplement comprises a combination of Sideritis herba, Tiliae flos, Zingiberis rhizome, and Cinnamomi cortex plant extracts. The food supplement is preferably in liquid form, preferably in syrup form.

[0019] The plant extracts are prepared as standardized. Each plant used in the invention was extracted separately with at least 4 different solvent systems and prepared by determining the most suitable solvent system for each of them. The product prepared with hydroglyceric extraction is selected as the final product combination. During the production process, a standardized product is prepared based on the total amount of phenolics and flavonoids in Sideritis species, the total amount of flavonoids in Tilia species, the amount of gingerols in ginger, and the percentage of cinnamaldehyde in Cinnamomum bark essential oil. This is one of the distinguishing aspects of the technique in the presence of the state of the art.

[0020] The invention is preferably in syrup form. However, it is safe, non-toxic, and suitable for use even by children over two years of age. It is easy to drink and has a pleasant taste. It contributes to the treatment and facilitates the prevention of cough symptoms associated with the common cold.

[0021] Although the preferred form of the food supplement of the invention is liquid, in different embodiments it may be prepared in capsule or tablet form or other solid pharmaceutical forms.

[0022] The intended purpose can be changed by emphasizing the anti-inflammatory effect by adding pure compounds and or the extracts with anti-inflammatory effects in the invention. Alternatively, different combinations can be prepared by using a different plant instead of one or more plants in the combination.

[0023] The ingredients of the inventive food supplement and the usage rates of the said ingredients are given in the table below. Since Sideritis species are traditionally used for the symptoms of colds and upper respiratory tract infections, the invention aims to prepare a formulation containing the plant targeted to this indication.

[0024] In a preferred embodiment of the invention,

[0025] • Sideritis congesta extract, (1 part) • Tilia sp. (Linden) extract, (1 part)

[0026] • Zingiber officinale (Ginger) extract, (1 part)

[0027] • Cinnamomum sp. (Cinnamon) extract, (1 / 8 part)

[0028] • Lemon peel extract (1 / 60 part) is used.

[0029] In the production of the inventive food supplement, each extract is macerated at 30-400 for one day. The next day, it is filtered in the device connected to the extractor, and each extract is kept in the refrigerator until the preservative is added. The filtered extracts are mixed for 1 hour and the resulting mixture is pasteurized, pH: 4.3% (with citric acid) is set and then preservatives of 0.1% potassium sorbate and 0.1% sodium benzoate are added.
