Abstract

The disclosure relates to a vehicle security system (100) for establishing a link between a vehicle (1) and a user (2a,2b), the vehicle security system (100) comprising: a display device (10a,10b,10c) disposed in the vehicle (1) configured to display image data of a code; a communication device (40) configured to communicate with a portable electronic device (20);a processing circuit (102a, 102b, 102c) configured to connect operationally to the display device (10a, 10b, 10c) and the communication device (40) and configured to: generate a unique code to be displayed on the display device (10a, 10b, 10c), display the unique code on the display device (10a, 10b, 10c) to be read by a handheld electronic device (20) associated with a user (2a, 2b), receive a determination that the unique code has been read by the handheld electronic device (20) associated with the user (2a, 2b), and establish a trust link between the vehicle (1) and the user (2a, 2b) based on the presence of the handheld electronic device (20) in the vehicle (1).
